Background Information

Sonairte Laytown

The Waterways Award is aimed at enhancing the natural beauty of the waterways and adjacent amenity areas throughout the county.

Meath enjoys an expansive network of rivers, lakes, canals, streams, beaches and a wide range of associated features, riverbanks, bridges and weirs.

Cowpark Athboy

This initiative aims to assist local groups and individuals living in close proximity to these features to improve the visual appearance and to develop these features as local amenity areas.

There are three projects in this initiative:

  • Best Bridge in Bloom
  • Best Riverbank
  • Best Overall Use/ Enhancement of Waterside Amenity Space

Important factors to consider are:

  • Safety
  • Appropriateness of feature or planting
  • Conservation
  • Permission from the appropriate body

Judging

Groups who are participating will then proceed with their work schedules, the judging takes place in July.
