Meath County Council

Meath County Council is the primary unit of Local Government in County Meath.
The Council was established in 1899 following the enactment of the 1898 Local Government (Ireland) Act. Local Government was given constitutional recognition in 1999.
There are 29 members on the Council. Members are directly elected by the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote.
Meath County Council is one of the County’s major employers, currently employing over 700 staff. In recent years the Council has moved to a system of area based service delivery through a network of One-Stop Shops at Ashbourne, Duleek, Dunshaughlin, Kells, Navan and Trim as well as through the headquarters.
