Oldcastle
Oldcastle is a centre for anglers and is about 6.4 kms from Lough Ramor (County Cavan) and 10 kms from Lough Sheelin. Sheelin is an excellent lake for trout and Ramor is noted for its coarse fishing.
Loughcrew Demesne, an extensive park, covers a considerable part of the local countryside.
The actual site of the birthplace of St. Oliver Plunkett is a subject for continual argument locally, but it is fairly certain that he was born in a house in the southeast corner of the churchyard at Loughcrew.
About 3.2kms from Loughcrew Demesne is Dromone cross roads. Nearby are the remains of Moylagh church and castle. The ruins of the church are very fragmentary and once belonged to the abbey of Fore in County Westmeath.
Oldcastle also has a very vibrant Chamber of Commerce which actively promotes and fosters the business and tourism interests in the town.
